Periodontal Treatment
Periodontal diseases comprise a wide range of conditions from simple gingivitis to severe infections (periodontitis) where the jaw bones melt away and lead to teeth loss. With these diseases, the gums may swell, redden, bleed, recede, teeth may become longer, bad breath may occur, the teeth may be displaced, the gaps between teeth may increase and eventually the teeth may be lost. Gum bleeding, which is one of the most important symptoms of periodontal disease and can be easily noticed by the patient, may occur while brushing teeth, eating hard foods and may even happen spontaneously.
Gum diseases are mostly preventable and can be taken under control. Treatment depends on good oral hygiene, correct and early diagnosis and correct treatment approaches. Therefore, both the patient and the dentist should be actively involved in the treatment.
